Bayern Munich have not made an approach to sign Gareth Bale on loan from Real Madrid, the player’s agent Jonathan Barnett told ESPN FC on Monday.

The Wales international is reportedly one of the players expected to leave the Spanish giants this summer, and is considered surplus to requirements since the return of Zinedine Zidane as coach.

When does the 2019-20 La Liga season start?

Reports in Spain had suggested Bayern were prepared to match Bale’s wages in order to take the player on loan as they look to strengthen their attack after losing Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery this summer. However, Barnett labelled these reports as “rubbish.”

Manchester United recently turned down the chance to speak to Madrid about the possibility of signing Bale because the club is looking to sign younger players.

Bale, 29, was a United target in previous transfer windows, including when he joined Tottenham after leaving Southampton in 2007, and when he opted for Real Madrid in 2013 in a €100 million transfer.

The former Spurs star played 42 games for Madrid, with 21 coming as a starter last season. Injury problems have limited Bale to only 79 games of a possible 151 in La Liga over the last four seasons.

Barnett said last month that Bale is determined to honour his contract with Madrid, which runs for another three years.

Bale’s reported £300,000-a-week wages are considered a stumbling block for many clubs.

The 29-year-old has won  four Champions League crowns, a La Liga title and a Copa del Rey trophy during his time in Spain.
